What are construction project controls?
Project controls are the practices that keep a project's cost, scope, schedule, and risk visible and accountable while the work is still in progress: establishing a budget baseline, tracking commitments and changes against it, forecasting the outcome at completion, and maintaining the record that explains how each number was produced.
How do field activities affect project controls?
Field activity is the earliest signal that the plan and reality are diverging. Daily reports, inspections, and issues in ConstructVue attach to the same work packages the commitments sit on, so a recurring issue or a blocked package is visible in the same record that carries the cost position, rather than surfacing weeks later as a change order.
What is the difference between project controls and project management?
Project management runs the work; project controls measure and govern it. Controls answers whether the project is still tracking to its cost, scope, and schedule commitments and what evidence supports that answer. The two share the same underlying records, which is why separating them into different systems causes reconciliation work.
Why does a single record matter for project controls?
Because controls is only as credible as its traceability. When commitments, changes, forecasts, and field events derive from one project record, any reported figure can be opened back to the award, change order, or daily report that produced it. When they live in separate systems, the reported figure has to be defended instead of examined.
